Morris Hospital Announces Plans to Expand Outpatient Parking Lot

September 18, 2017, MORRIS, IL – Construction will begin this week to expand Morris Hospital’s outpatient parking lot at High and Lisbon Streets on the southwest corner of the hospital campus, resulting in 33 additional parking spaces. The outpatient entrance will remain open during parking lot construction, which is scheduled for completion by mid-October.

The improvements are being made to better serve patients and visitors coming to the hospital for outpatient testing and services, which numbered over 190,000 last year.

Once construction begins, the drop-off/pick up drive in front of the outpatient entrance will permanently become one-way traffic, with vehicles entering from High Street.

“We believe this change in traffic pattern will improve safety for guests dropping off and picking up loved ones at the outpatient entrance, just as our main entrance circle drive has a one way traffic flow,” explains Tom Dohm, Vice President of Professional Services at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers.

According to Dohm, the new outpatient parking lot will be accessible from both High and Lisbon Streets.  Once construction begins, parking on the north side of High Street between Lisbon Street and the hospital’s outpatient drive will be prohibited due to the new access drives for the outpatient parking lot. While the outpatient entrance and drive will remain open during the brief construction period, up to four outpatient parking spaces will be temporarily out of service.

Along with the 33 additional parking spaces, patients and visitors can look forward to an increase in the number of handicap spaces closer to the outpatient entrance, the availability of short term parking spaces near the outpatient entrance so guests can leave their cars briefly to assist family members, and new signage that better identifies the outpatient entrance.

“The timing couldn’t be better, with the outpatient parking lot expansion slated for completion before cold weather sets in,” says Dohm. “We’re very much looking forward to providing improved parking accommodations on the west side of our campus for our outpatients and visitors.”
