Morris Hospital Fire Starter Always Willing to Lend a Hand

April 28, 2023, Morris, IL – Dave Bowers, of Braidwood, was selected as Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers Fire Starter of the Month for April.

It didn’t take long after being hired as a Receiving Technician at Morris Hospital in 2021 for Bowers to earn a reputation for being a stellar team player who is always willing to lend a hand to other areas of the hospital’s Supply Chain operations.

“Since joining us nearly two years ago, Dave has played an integral role in our Supply Chain operations as a Receiving Technician and fill in Courier,” said Brandon Senesac, Supply Chain Manager at Morris Hospital.

“He is consistently willing to step up when he notices a need and will always provide assistance when asked,” added Senesac. “His easy going nature is a perfect fit for the department, and his hard working attitude is a necessary mentality for Morris Hospital and our patients. This is a well-deserved recognition.”

Having previously worked in warehouse settings, the Receiving department was a good fit for Bowers, who spends the majority of his day checking in deliveries and making sure they get delivered to the right department all throughout the organization. Bowers clearly understands the importance of the work he does.

“Our department is kind of the heartbeat of the hospital,” said Bowers. “If we don’t get the supplies in that people need to do their jobs and take care of patients, the rest of the hospital can’t function. It’s rewarding being able to get people what they need.”

As part of the overall Supply Chain operations, Bowers was asked from the start if he would be willing to learn the courier role in case there was ever a need for additional help. Since getting cross trained, he fills in as courier every few months.

He also expressed interested in learning more about the Storeroom operations and received cross training there as well so he can help out when there’s a need. On days when Receiving work is done for the day, he will make his way across the hall to Stores to see where he can lend a hand.

“I’ve always liked to keep busy,” said Bowers. “And you never know if someone is having a frustrating day. Giving a little extra help can go a long way to make someone’s day.”

Indeed, does Bowers helpfulness and team spirited attitude makes a difference. The 11 employees who signed Bower’s Fire Starter nomination form expressed their gratitude, noting that Bowers is “the first person to step up” whenever extra help is needed.

In early civilizations, fire starters were individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. With over 1,400 employees, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County.
