Morris Hospital Earns “A” Grade for Patient Safety

November 7, 2019, MORRIS, IL –  Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is among the 33% of hospitals in the nation that received an “A” grade on the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade that was released on November 7. This national distinction recognizes Morris Hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.

Twice a year, the Leapfrog Group assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harm to patients in their care.

Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The data used to calculate the Fall Hospital Safety Grade covers a time period ranging from July 2016-September 2018, depending on the measure.

Of the 103 Illinois hospitals that were assessed on the fall report, 46 received A’s,
19 received B’s, 34 received C’s, and 4 received D’s.

“The patients we serve expect and deserve excellent, safe and efficient care,” says Kimberly Landers, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nurse Executive at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “Receiving an A on the Hospital Safety Grade affirms this is what we are providing.”

Landers says Morris Hospital’s A is a result of a continuous and relentless commitment on behalf of the leaders, staff, physicians and volunteers, who strive to make Morris Hospital one of the best in the country for patients to receive care.

“Our leadership team is committed to adhering to best practices in the healthcare industry to assure our patient care delivery is among the best,” says Landers. “Providing safe discharge instructions and follow up care, information about medications, reducing any source of potential hospital related infections, and teaching patients to speak up about their care and diagnostic testing is all part of our daily work and absolutely makes a difference for patients.”

“Of course, having the best staff is integral to our success, and we do believe we have the best staff at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers.”

Serving patients at 25 locations, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers includes the 89-bed Morris Hospital, as well as physician offices in Braidwood, Channahon, Coal City, Dwight, Gardner, Marseilles, Mazon, Minooka, Morris, Newark, Ottawa and Yorkville. Through the services of over 1,700 healthcare professionals, physicians and volunteers, Morris Hospital provides lifesaving cardiac intervention with angioplasty and stents, a radiation therapy center for cancer patients, state-of-the-art intensive care unit, sleep center, and immediate care services at three locations.
