Grundy County’s First Baby of 2022 Arrives on January 3

January 5, 2021, MORRIS, IL – Grundy County’s first baby of the New Year arrived at Morris Hospital on January 3, 2022, at 7:57 a.m. Baby Waylon Draeger is the son of Emily and Dan Draeger of Morris.

Delivered by Morris Hospital obstetrician/gynecologist Dr. Erik Muraskas, Waylon weighed 7 lbs., 7 oz., and measured 20 1/2 inches in length. He will be welcomed home by his big sister, Makinzie.

Just as planned, Waylon arrived via C-section that was scheduled long before the New Year arrived. It wasn’t until Emily was going into the operating room that she found out Waylon was going to be the first baby born at Morris Hospital in 2022.

“We hadn’t really even thought of him being the first baby of the year,” Emily said from the comforts of the Family Birthing Suites with Waylon close by. “It is definitely exciting knowing that he is the first baby.”

As it turns out, Waylon doesn’t just hold the honor of being Grundy County’s first baby in 2022. He’s also Emily and Dan’s first son, and he’s the first grandson of Robin and Mike Huber of Elburn and Barb and Glenn Draeger of New Lenox. He is also the great-grandson of Terri and Lou Kula of St. Charles and Sallie Huber of Elburn.

“Everything went well and it was a smooth delivery,” Emily said. “We’re doing well and hope to go home soon. We’re excited to have Makinzie meet Waylon in person.”

As Grundy County’s first baby of 2022, the family received a gift certificate courtesy of the Grundy Chamber of Commerce and a gift bag filled with gifts from the Morris Hospital Auxiliary.
