Online Childbirth Class

Our online childbirth class is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their baby’s birth. Our online class will help you understand pregnancy, learn about labor, see how the stages of labor unfold, and discover helpful comfort techniques during labor. Your eClass registration includes online access for six weeks. You will receive an email with instructions for accessing the online class. After you pay, you will receive instruction for accessing the class.

Introduction to Breastfeeding – Virtual Class

Description:

This FREE virtual class is a basic introduction to breastfeeding and is designed to educate parents about the benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and babies. Upon registration, you will immediately receive a link via email and can view the video at any time of your choosing. You will learn from our board-certified lactation consultant about the techniques and recommendations for having the best experience possible for you and your baby. Along with the video link, registered participants of this class are also welcome to reach out to our lactation consultant by phone or email if they have any questions about breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Basics

Expecting moms are encouraged to attend our free Breastfeeding Basics class sometime between 32 weeks gestation and baby’s arrival. Taught by certified breastfeeding counselors from Morris Hospital, the 90-minute class covers benefits of breastfeeding, physiology of lactation, breastfeeding techniques and problem solving. Join us in a relaxed and supportive environment to learn and ask questions. Preregistration is required. Each attendee may bring one support person.

American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED & First Aid

This AHA class is intended for the general public, or the non clinical Personal. This course will provide the skills needed to perform High Quality CPR. Community Blood Drive- Mobile Bus

Morris Hospital is hosting a mobile blood drive at the Morris Hospital Diamond-Coal City Campus in cooperation with Versiti Blood Center. Those who donate will be helping replenish the local blood supply as Versiti supplies blood products for Morris Hospital. All blood types are needed.

Blood donors must be age 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and free from cold or flu symptoms on the day of donation. In Illinois, 16-year-olds may donate with written approval from a parent or guardian.

The entire process for donating blood takes about 1 hour, including registration, a brief medical screening, blood collection and refreshments. Donors should bring a photo ID with proof of age. Those planning to donate should eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before donating.

Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic found that patients can experience a 35% reduction in symptoms by riding an indoor, stationary bicycle for one hour three days a week. While cycling is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease, there is compelling evidence to show that it does make a real difference for many who try it. Classes are designed to empower participants by optimizing their physical function, improving their gait, balance, speech, handwriting, and overall endurance, and helping to delay the progression of symptoms.
PWR! Moves (Parkinson Wellness Recovery)

Moves is a research-driven exercise program that focuses on improving functional mobility and strength for people living with Parkinson’s disease. Taught by specially certified instructors from Morris Hospital and the Morris Hospital YMCA, the class focuses on intentional and smooth movements to improve everyday actions such as walking, climbing stairs, and turning in tight spaces.

    Registration: Class size is limited to the first 20 participants based on a first come, first serve basis. Interested participants should sign up at the YMCA front desk up to 90 minutes prior to the start of class.According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, regular exercise during pregnancy benefits both mom and baby by reducing back pain, easing constipation, promoting healthy weight gain during pregnancy, strengthening heart and blood vessels, and decreasing the risk of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and cesearan delivery. SENIOR FITNESS CLASSES

We are pleased to offer FREE Senior Fitness classes for individuals age 55 and older that provide low impact aerobic and strength training for an overall workout. Classes are offered:

  • at the Village of Minooka (Community Room), 121 McEvilly Road, Minooka on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 & 9:30 a.m.. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class as class size is limited to 20 participants on a first come, first serve basis. EPILEPSY SUPPORT GROUP
  • The Illinois Valley Epilepsy Advocacy Network holds a free Epilepsy Support Group at Morris Hospital from 6:00-7:00 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month during the months March-November (The group does not meet in December, January or February). The support group is open to anyone who has epilepsy, as well as friends, family, and community members. Guest speakers are provided every other month.
