In the United States, 1 out of every 3 deaths is caused by cardiovascular disease. Stroke is the #5 cause of death and a leading cause of long-term adult disability. Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) refers to blockages in the leg arteries and affects up to 1 in 5 people over the age of 65, often resulting in a lower quality of life.

CHOOSE A RISK ASSESSMENT:
Cardiovascular disease is disease of the heart & blood vessels that can cause heart attack, stroke, heart failure and peripheral artery disease (poor blood circulation in the legs). When you complete our quick heart health risk assessment, you will discover important information about your cardiovascular health and risk factors that increase your chance of cardiovascular disease. You’ll also learn your “Heart Age” and how it compares to your actual age, along with your percent risk of having a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack, stroke, heart failure or peripheral artery disease. Once you learn your risk factors, you can work with your doctor to improve many of your risk factors to decrease your cardiovascular disease risk level.
Stroke is a brain attack, like a heart attack in your brain. It has serious consequences because blood flow and oxygen are cut off to the brain. Two million brain cells die every minute during a stroke, increasing your risk of permanent damage. When you complete our stroke risk assessment, you will discover your stroke risk factors and what you can do to lower your future risk of stroke.
Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) develops when arteries in your legs become clogged with fatty deposits called plaque. The areas of plaque limit blood flow to your legs. Just like clogged arteries in the heart, clogged arteries in the legs mean you are also at risk for having a heart attack or stroke. When you complete our PAD risk assessment, you will discover important information about your PAD risk factors and what you can do to lower your future risk of PAD.
What if I don’t know my numbers?
When you take the Heart Health Risk Assessment, you will be asked to enter your total cholesterol, HDL “good” cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol, triglycerides and fasting blood sugar (glucose). For the PAD Assessment, you will be asked your total cholesterol, HDL and LDL cholesterol, and for the Stroke Assessment, you will be asked your total cholesterol. If you don’t know your exact numbers, you can estimate an appropriate value using a “drop-down” selection on the assessment. However, if you wish to enter your precise values before taking the online assessment, you can obtain your total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose values by taking Morris Hospital’s $35 Heart Healthy Screening, available at Morris Hospital and our Yorkville Campus.
