Morris Hospital Seeking Volunteers for Various Positions

Morris Hospital Seeking Volunteers for Various Positions
July 13, 2021 Janet Long

July 9, 2021, Morris, IL – Morris Hospital is actively recruiting volunteers to serve in specific positions where there are current needs. This includes patient transportation, surgical waiting, and the Auxiliary Gift Shop.

Both drivers and drivers’ assistants are needed for the patient transportation service. Working in pairs, drivers operate the vehicle, while assistants help navigate the route which can include travel throughout Grundy County and parts of LaSalle, Kendall, Will and Livingston. Both drivers and drivers’ assistants work together to safely assist patients on and off the handicap accessible vehicles

Patient transportation volunteers must be 21 or older, and drivers must have a valid Illinois driver’s license.  A CDL driver’s license is not required. Patient transportation volunteer shifts are typically 4-6 hours on weekdays. While it is preferred that transportation volunteers work at least one shift each week, the frequency of volunteering can be adjusted according to the volunteer’s schedule.

Surgical waiting room volunteers are needed at the hospital on weekdays for the 6-10 a.m. shift. The role of the surgical waiting volunteers is to keep family members informed while their loved one is undergoing surgery by interacting with both hospital staff and patients’ family members.

The gift shop’s greatest need is volunteers who are able to work on weekends or 3-6 p.m. on weekdays. Gift shop volunteers must be at least 16 years old and have good customer service skills along with the ability to operate the cash register.

All Morris Hospital volunteers receive thorough orientation and training in order to carry out their specific responsibilities. Uniforms and a picture identification badge are provided. In appreciation of their service, volunteers receive complimentary flu shots, a meal in the hospital on the day of service, and recognition for service hours.
