Morris Hospital Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ for Patient Safety
May 13, 2022, MORRIS, IL – Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers received an ‘A’ on the spring 2022 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade that was released May 10, the hospital’s eighth consecutive “A” since the fall of 2018. This national distinction recognizes Morris Hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.
An independent national watchdog organization, the Leapfrog Group assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to general hospitals across the country every six months based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
The data used to calculate the spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grade covers a time period ranging from July 2018-2021, depending on the quality measure. Of the 114 hospitals in Illinois, 29% received an A on the spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grade, 23% received a B, 40% received a C, 7% received a D, and less than 1% received an F.
“Two years into the pandemic, our organization continues to thrive and demonstrate that patient safety is our number one priority,” says Kimberly Landers, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. “The physicians and employees at Morris Hospital demonstrate our core values of compassion, accountability, respect and excellence through their interactions with our patients every day. We are so very proud of the national recognition we have received for the excellent care our team provides to the community.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers for their sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
