Extraordinary Ultrasound Technologist Selected as Morris Hospital Fire Starter of the Month

December 1, 2025, MORRIS, IL – For Julie Robbins, helping others has always been more than a passion; it has been her calling. From an early age, the Shorewood resident knew she wanted a career centered around serving others, although she was not sure which path to take. That changed when she came across a Joliet Junior College book describing different medical careers. Reading about ultrasound sparked her interest and set her on a path that would lead to nearly three decades of compassionate, high-quality care.

Today, Robbins’ dedication continues to shine at Morris Hospital, where she has spent the past 28 years making a difference for patients and coworkers alike as an ultrasound technologist. In recognition of her commitment and outstanding service, Robbins has been named Morris Hospital’s November Fire Starter of the Month.

Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers Assistant Vice President of Ambulatory Services Erin Kotowski describes Robbins as a remarkable team member. “Julie is a staple in the Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists office and has given so much to the organization over the last 28 years, including training all of our new ultrasound techs,” says Kotowski. “She continues to make a positive impact on her coworkers and patients, so much that patients will specifically ask for her when they schedule their appointments. She is beloved by everyone she interacts with.”

Robbins’ journey to Morris Hospital began before ever stepping foot on campus while she was working at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago. There, she met future Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Douglas Toussaint, who was working in the labor and delivery unit. Robbins says that his enthusiasm and compassion left a lasting impression on her, and when a position opened at Morris Hospital, she was eager to reunite with Dr. Toussaint.

Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse Michelle Dennett, who nominated Robbins for Fire Starter, describes her as the kind of coworker every office hopes to have.
“Julie makes everyone around her want to be better and encourages everyone to strive for excellence,” says Dennett. “She goes above and beyond for her patients and always delivers excellent care. She is a positive influence on everyone she meets.”

For Robbins, the best part of her job is the people, both patients and coworkers. She says the support and teamwork among staff make coming to work enjoyable.

“I love working with people who want to make a difference in the lives of our patients,” says Robbins. “When I am in a room with a patient, my mission is to make them feel comfortable in what can be an uncomfortable situation. I enjoy getting to know my patients and helping them have a positive experience.”

In early civilizations, fire starters were individuals who had the important job of keeping the flame alive. With over 1,500 employees, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County.
