Online Childbirth Class

Our online childbirth class is ideal for expectant parents who can’t attend our Prepared Childbirth class due to work schedules, time constraints or medical conditions. The eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information parents need to know to prepare for their baby’s birth. Our online class will help you understand pregnancy, learn about labor, see how the stages of labor unfold, and discover helpful comfort techniques during labor. Your eClass registration includes online access for six weeks. Within 72 hours after registering, you will receive an email with instructions for accessing the online class. After you pay, you will receive instruction for accessing the class.

Babysitter’s Training Course

Designed for youths age 11 and older, this course can help babysitters: interview for a babysitting job, choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, perform first aid, learn diapering and feeding techniques, handle bedtime issues, and learn tips for having a safe babysitting experience. Introduction to Breastfeeding

We are committed to providing breastfeeding moms with all the education and support they need to have a successful breastfeeding experience. This FREE class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping, and going back to work. Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding. The class is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their infants.

Prostate Screening

As an accredited cancer program through the Commission on Cancer of the College of American Surgeons, Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is committed to offering early detection prostate screenings annually free of charge. The screening is intended for men ages 50 to 70 who do not have prostate cancer and are free of symptoms and includes a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test and a digital rectal exam performed by a urologist with Advanced Urology Associates. Men at high risk for prostate cancer, including African American men and men who have a close relative diagnosed with prostate cancer before age 65, should speak with their physician about beginning testing at an earlier age. Limited appointments are available. Advance registration is required by calling Morris Hospital at 815-416-6089.

Carbohydrate Counting Class (Meal Provided)

Breathers’ Support Group

Cornfest 5K Fun Run

Held during Grundy County Corn Festival, the Morris Hospital 5K Fun Run is a 3.1 mile USATF IL-08046-JW certified course that starts at 9 a.m. on Dupont Avenue in front of Morris Elementary School and winds through residential neighborhoods. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall male and female finishers, as well as the top 3 male and female in each age group. Long sleeve, hooded dri-fit shirts will be available to the first 300 pre-registered participants. $25 for early registration (May 13-Aug 25); $28 for standard registration (Aug. 26-Sept. 24); $30 race day registration .

There is also a Youth Fun Run for children 5 and under (100 yards) and 6-10 (1/2 mile) starting at 8:15 a.m. Registration is $10 per child.

New Siblings

Enjoy a fun and interactive experience with you and your child as we explore expectations of a Super sibling. Donate Blood

Our free, Breathers’ Support Group meets the third Friday of each month and is for anyone diagnosed with chronic lung disease including COPD, asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, and pulmonary fibrosis. Lead by respiratory therapists, the group gives people with chronic lung disease an opportunity to participate in general discussions about ways to manage their condition, gain emotional support, and share their experiences with others. A 20 minute educational topic is presented at each meeting, with this month’s topic focusing on “Lung CT, Radiology Updates.”

Head and Neck Cancer Support Group

This FREE support group is for people with head and neck cancer or a history of head and neck cancer. The support group meets the third Monday of every month and provides an opportunity to meet people with similar challenges. The group is lead by a Morris Hospital speech pathologist and oncology nurse who can offer assistance with navigating through the illness and the rehabilitation process.

Introduction to Breastfeeding

We are committed to providing breastfeeding moms with all the education and support they need to have a successful breastfeeding experience. This FREE class focuses on the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping, and going back to work. Breastfeeding moms will also get advice to help solve problems related to breastfeeding. The class is taught by a certified lactation consultant. Nursing mothers are welcome to bring their infants.

New Siblings

Enjoy a fun and interactive experience with you and your child as we explore expectations of a Super sibling. Through hands on activities and games, Siblings-to-be will learn how a newborn baby looks and acts and what happens while mom and baby are in the hospital. Activities, discussion, and a tour of the birthing suites helps them feel a part of the experience. Each child should bring a doll or stuffed animal. Cost is $5 per child. Please register online.

Prepared Childbirth

Designed for expectant parents during their last trimester of pregnancy, the Prepared Childbirth class covers labor, comfort measures, relaxation and medical interventions. Pain management options will also be discussed, along with vaginal and cesarean birth. Donate Blood
