Lee's Knee Replacement Surgery
Lee's Knee Replacement Surgery
Lee had been living with knee pain for several years when he decided it was time for knee replacement surgery.
"My leg was starting to bow out at the knee joint," he says. "My golf playing had become limited, and any time I had to walk down an incline was very painful."
Lee had connected with Orthopedic Surgeon Keith Rezin, M.D., several years earlier when he needed arthroscopic surgery. His personal physician at Rush University Medical Center was a former classmate of Dr. Rezin's.
"He told me Dr. Rezin was the top man in their class and that he was unbelievably good. When it comes to the knees, for me, it's all Rezin."
On June 9, 2011, Lee underwent a total replacement knee surgery at Morris Hospital and received an artificial knee joint that was customized precisely for him. The knee pain he had been experiencing for many years was gone immediately. His rehabilitation began right away while he was still in the hospital.
"The staff at Morris Hospital saw that Lee was eager to get his therapy going," says Lee's wife, Linda. "They really connected with him."
"I can't say enough good things about Morris Hospital," adds Lee. "The staff is amazing, and I've been around a lot of hospitals."
Two days after surgery, Lee went home. His first stop was in his garage where he picked up a golf club and gave a few practice swings.
Today, Lee is enjoying being able to do all the things that used to result in pain, like golfing, walking down an incline, dancing with his wife, and playing catch with his grandson. He can even kneel down on both knees, which isn't too bad for a 71-year-old.
"I don't have the pain or limitations that I used to," he adds. "I'm like a new person."
