Therapy Services

Therapy Services

Individuals who are experiencing the physical effects of an injury or medical condition may benefit from therapy services. There are all kinds of reasons to choose the Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Center of Morris Hospital. Our services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, as well as a number of specialized therapeutic programs for specific medical conditions.  All of our patients receive one-on-one therapy -- never in a group setting - from highly qualified, licensed therapists. Our therapy team stays in touch with the client's physician to deliver focused, safe and effective care. Plus, therapy is provided in a safe environment with a physician available on the premises at all times.

Our therapies are designed to help patients regain maximum movement and function, reduce pain, and achieve the highest possible level of independence and participation in daily life following a diagnosis of:

  • Joint problems and pain, including recovery from joint replacement surgery
  • Repetitive motion disorders
  • Diminished range of motion
  • Injuries to the neck, spine and extremities
  • Degenerative diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis
  • Recovery from a heart attack, stroke and other heart-related problems
  • Neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease
  • Sports injuries
  • Foot/ankle pain
  • Vertigo and other balance problems
  • Torticollis (shortening of neck muscles of infants)

Team Approach

Our team of licensed, experienced professionals provides patients with excellent rehabilitation care close to home. Physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists work together to help patients reach their goals. During a patient's first visit, a therapist from each appropriate discipline evaluates the patient's condition and discusses personal goals for therapy. The team then works together to create a coordinated plan for each patient.

Our Services

Some patients may require physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech-language pathology alone, while others may require a combination of the three for the best possible outcome. Patients greatly benefit from individualized, one-on-one sessions. In addition, our therapists help guide patients through exercises and techniques that can be done independently as they continue their progress at home.

  • Physical Therapy - Physical therapy can help improve mobility, regain balance and relieve pain. Our licensed physical therapists use a number of different techniques such as: guided exercises, strength training, stretching, massage, heat or cold applications, and ultrasound, as well as various activities that help build balance and coordination.
  • Occupational Therapy - Occupational therapy helps reduce the physical limitations caused by an injury or illness by: building strength and endurance, demonstrating ways to compensate for loss of vision, and teaching new ways to accomplish activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, getting into a car and using the bathroom. Through occupational therapy, patients also learn safety techniques for living with physical limitations.
  • Speech Therapy - Speech therapy can be an important part of rehabilitation, especially for patients who have experienced an injury or illness such as a stroke or head injury that caused a neurological change. Neurological changes can affect memory, speech, concentration, reasoning, information processing and even ability to swallow. Our speech language pathologists use a number of different techniques and exercises, as well as advanced technology, to help improve communication, cognitive abilities and swallowing difficulties.

Specialized Therapeutic Programs

  • Lymphedema - Lymphedema is the chronic swelling of the arms or legs that can occur when the lymph system is damaged or lymph nodes have been removed. Most often, lymphedema occurs after surgery or radiation for some cancers. Our physical therapists use various techniques such as manual lymph drainage and bandaging to reduce swelling and improve quality of life.
  • Assistive Device Assessments - There are many tools and devices available that are designed to help make everyday tasks and activities easier, whether it's assistance grabbing an object that's out of reach, putting on shoes, cutting meat, or shuffling a deck of cards. After completing a thorough assessment, our occupational therapists can recommend and connect patients with appropriate and helpful assistive devices.
  • Mobility Assessments - It can be difficult to determine whether you or a loved one could benefit from an assistive device for walking or mobility. Our occupational therapists provide a full, professional assessment of mobility level and make suggestions regarding the need for a wheelchair, walker or cane. They also assess the need for accessible parking permits.
