February 19, 2010, Morris, Illinois – Corrina Walker of Morris was named Fire Starter of the Month for January at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. She is a Clinical Application Specialist in the Information Technology department.
Walker’s special niche involves assisting physicians and their office staff with remote access to the hospital’s information technology systems. This past year, she was responsible for implementing eClinicalWorks at Morris Hospital’s eight Healthcare Centers. This significant information technology project has changed patient care in the physician office setting with electronic medical records, eprescribing, and enhanced registration and billing systems.
Whether she is interacting with physicians or staff, Walker’s genuine helpful demeanor and commitment to excellence is appreciated by those who rely on her for information technology expertise.
"Corrina always makes herself available to whoever may need her," said Vic Apostolovski, a co-worker in the Information Technology department. "We often get calls from doctors’ offices praising Corrina for the assistance she provided over the phone or in person in the office. They always say how wonderful and helpful she is."
A native of Mattoon, Illinois, and a graduate of Parkland College in Champaign, Walker has worked in information technology in a number of settings over the past 13 years, including healthcare, government, communications and law. She came to Morris from St. Louis in 2007 specifically for the job opportunity at Morris Hospital.
"The job sounded great," says Walker. "The position seemed like it would be similar to what I was already doing but on a bigger scale with more responsibility."
As it turns out, the job has been everything Walker thought it would be and more. She’s delighted with the organization and the people.
"This is by far my favorite job." she says. "I have a great group of people to work with and I really enjoy what I do.
As Fire Starter of the Month, Walker received a Grundy County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a special "Fire Starter" lapel pin, and a designated parking spot for the month. Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County with over 920 employees.
