Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Foundation Offer Healthcare Scholarships

January 21, 2010, MORRIS, IL The Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Morris Hospital Foundation will again be offering a total of five, $1,000 scholarships to individuals who are pursuing healthcare careers.

Scholarship applicants must reside in one of the 18 communities served by Morris Hospital and be accepted into, or currently enrolled in, a hospital-related health care curriculum at an accredited college, university or vocational/technical school. The 18 communities include: Braceville, Braidwood, Channahon, Coal City, Dwight, Gardner, Kinsman, Marseilles, Mazon, Minooka, Morris, Newark, Ottawa, Ransom, Seneca, South Wilmington, Verona and Wilmington.

The Morris Hospital Foundation is offering the $1,000 Carol Harrington Endowed Morris Hospital Foundation Scholarship. The Morris Hospital Auxiliary is offering three, $1,000 healthcare scholarships, in addition to the $1,000 Morris Hospital Auxiliary Maxine Burroughs Nursing Scholarship.

“The scholarships are intended to assist and encourage post-high school education for students who are engaged in a hospital-related health care course of study, in addition to attracting and retaining individuals who are interested in health care careers,” explains Ginny Kelly, Vice President of Development at Morris Hospital.  “The Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Morris Hospital Foundation are both pleased to show their continued support for health care recruitment and retention efforts through the scholarship programs.”

The Morris Hospital Auxiliary scholarships are supported by Auxiliary fundraising activities throughout the year. The Carol Harrington Endowed scholarship is supported through generous contributions which were previously made by community residents. The Morris Hospital Foundation also provides three, $1,000 healthcare scholarships for Morris Hospital employees and their dependents.

One application form can be used to apply for all scholarships. The application includes essay questions and requires at least two current letters of reference. All applications will be reviewed by representatives of the Morris Hospital Auxiliary and Morris Hospital Foundation.
