 January 15, 2010, MORRIS, IL – The Dwight Fire Department is purchasing $3,029 in medical supplies as a result of a gift provided by the Morris Hospital Foundation.
Dwight Fire’s rescue squad, command unit and station will each be supplied with a kit that contains all of the essentials needed to provide basic life saving care, including airways, dressings, and supplies for traumatic injury; a pocket size pulse oximeter for checking oxygen levels; a spine board; oxygen tank regulator; and waterproof, padded bags for transporting oxygen tanks.
“Having the proper equipment will allow our already certified first responders to be able to respond and assist EMS on second and third ambulance calls,” says Mike Kingman, Captain of Dwight Fire Department. “This will enhance our service to the community."
The Dwight Fire Department is a volunteer, non-profit organization that operates as the Dwight Fire Protection District and runs the Dwight Emergency Medical Services. The Dwight Fire Protection District is approximately 120 square miles.
The gift to the Dwight Fire Department is a result of the Morris Hospital Foundation’s 2007 annual appeal, which focused on raising funds for critical life saving equipment for emergency medical services, rescue squads and other organizations throughout the community. A total of $14,000 is being awarded to six community organizations this year through the Morris Hospital Foundation’s lifesaving fund.
The Morris Hospital Foundation, which is governed by a 17-member, volunteer board of directors, was established in 1994 to enhance the work of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. The Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, provides donors the opportunity to make outright, as well as legacy gifts impacting both the community’s immediate and future healthcare needs.
