January 5, 2010, MORRIS, IL – The Morris Hospital Foundation has awarded a $760 grant to the United Methodist Women/Channahon United Methodist Church in support of their comfort pillow project.
The heart-shaped pillows made by members of Channahon United Methodist Women are given to women undergoing breast cancer treatment, including patients at the Radiation Therapy Center of Morris Hospital. The grant will cover the cost of supplies needed to make a year’s supply of pillows.
“The soft fleece pillows are used to cushion the underarm and neck areas, or they can be cradled,” said Cherri Taylor, Treasurer of the Channahon United Methodist Women. “The pillows are embroidered with encouraging words that foster hope and confidence. Funding from the Morris Hospital Foundation will allow us to continue to purchase all supplies that are necessary to make the pillows.”
The grant awarded to the United Methodist Women/Channahon United Methodist Church is one of nine health care grants recently awarded by the Morris Hospital Foundation to fund initiatives that improve the health and well-being of members of the communities served by Morris Hospital. This is the eighth year for the Morris Hospital Foundation’s grant program, which was made possible through funding from a bequest from a community member several years ago.
The Morris Hospital Foundation, which is governed by a 17-member, volunteer board of directors, was established in 1994 to enhance the work of Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. The Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, provides donors the opportunity to make outright, as well as legacy gifts impacting both the community’s immediate and future healthcare needs.
