November 17, 2009, Morris, Illinois – Richard Payne, of Mazon, was named Fire Starter of the Month for November at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers. The Fire Starter award is presented each month to an employee who makes a difference through an unshakable commitment to excellence.
Payne is a Tech II in Environmental Services and has a reputation for working tirelessly to assist others wherever he’s needed. A lifelong resident of Mazon who was born at Morris Hospital, he joined the staff in 1999 after serving as custodian at Mazon-Verona-Kinsman School for 30 years. Just six weeks after his retirement from MVK, he was ready to go back to work.
“Richard is a guy that never stops,” says Bob Hunter, Manager of Environmental Services. “He is always on the run and gives 115 percent each day. He is always willing to help anyone no matter how busy his schedule may be. He is a good, friendly, generous and courteous fellow.”
In nominating Payne for Fire Starter of the Month, an employee wrote that she has never known anyone like him.
“Rain or shine, within or outside the hospital, Richard is always running tirelessly and never lets hard work slow him down or interfere with his friendly demeanor,” the employee wrote in her nomination. “I always know that he will come through for any task that is given to him. He amazes me.”
For Payne, providing excellent service to others is just an inherent part of who he is.
“I try to keep everyone happy and keep things running smoothly,” he says. “I enjoy being around people and love the people I work with. Morris Hospital is a good place to work.”
As Fire Starter of the Month, Payne received a Grundy County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate, a special “Fire Starter” lapel pin, and a designated parking spot for the month. Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers is the largest employer in Grundy County with over 920 employees.
