Critical Care Unit
Critical Care Unit
Patients are admitted to the Critical Care Unit when the doctor believes close observation and technically skilled support are necessary. This requires a unique blend of sophisticated equipment, specially trained nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Family and friends often ask what they can do for a loved one who is in intensive care. Our advice is to let the patient know you are there. Even if he/she is not alert, a familiar voice can be comforting. Don't be afraid to touch the patient. A reassuring touch may be the best way you can help your loved one. Be positive and supportive. Some topics may be upsetting, but avoiding them may be worse. Be a good listener.
In general, please remember that:
-
Two visitors (family or significant others) may visit between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
-
Children ages 6 to 12 may visit if they are accompanied by an adult. Children under age 6 are not permitted.
-
In order to provide rest and privacy for all our patients, please limit visits to 10 minutes.
-
Remember, patient care is our first priority and may at times prevent you from seeing your loved one as often as you wish.
-
You may call anytime of the day or night to inquire about loved ones.
-
Visitors may not eat in patient rooms but may eat in our family lounge or hospital cafe.
-
Cell phone use is not permitted in the critical care area because it may interfere with specialized equipment.
-
Clergy may visit anytime, but must check in with the nurse.
-
Handwashing is very important. Wash or use hand sanitizer upon entering and leaving room. Be mindful of Isolation Signs and follow recommendations.
